About
David Hagymas
I’m David Hagymas, the founder of the National Student Athlete Association (NSAA). My passion for supporting student-athletes was shaped by my extensive experience as both a player and coach in collegiate athletics. As a student-athlete at Coastal Carolina University, I competed in Division I tennis, earning All-Conference honors for my performance on the court. I later earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Experiential Education from Plymouth State University. My coaching career spans over three decades, including 10 years as a tennis coach at Duke University from 1996 to 2006 and 20 years as a tennis coach and physical education teacher at MIT since 2006. These experiences, from competing at the Division I level to mentoring athletes at elite institutions, have fueled my commitment to creating NSAA—a platform that empowers college and high school athletes with the resources, mentorship, and community they need to succeed in sports and academics.

About Sophie Hagymas
I’m Sophie Hagymas, a proud member of the National Student Athlete Association (NSAA) and a former student-athlete at the University of Rhode Island, where I competed on the Women’s Track & Field team as a pole vaulter. During my time at URI, I achieved a personal best indoor pole vault of 11'1.5" at the 2024 NEICAAA Indoor Track & Field Championship, showcasing my dedication and competitive spirit. My experience as a Division I athlete taught me the importance of resilience, discipline, and teamwork, which I now channel into supporting the NSAA’s mission. As the daughter of NSAA founder David Hagymas, I’m passionate about helping other student-athletes navigate the challenges of balancing academics and athletics, drawing on my own journey to inspire and empower the next generation.
